Maidstone Head Race - March

 

The Club celebrated its fleet of new boats, increased membership and winter training with an impressive series of wins at the annual Maidstone Head Race.

 In fine, sunny weather, Medway's rowers took won 6 pennants in the three divisions.  Shaun Martin and Michael Russell won the Masters B double sculls in a splendid time of 8 minutes 43 seconds which was the second fastest time of the day. Only a Masters’ Quad with 4 scullers, from Maidstone went faster. Shaun & Michael later covered the course, in the IM2 category, finishing in a time of 8min 48secs.  Graham Mitchell-Hill partnered by Hazel Dowman, in a mixed double, covered the course in a fine time of 9mins 48secs. Also winning a pennant, was the Men’s Masters D crew, comprising G. Seamark, R. Philpot, G. Mitchell-Hill & J. Player. Cox was Soltan Szotyon.

University student pennant winners R. Grice, H Jones, T Thackery & R. Williams, won in their Men’s Novice Coxed Four in 9mins 29secs, while the ladies crew of S. Garside, C. Stokes, S. Wheeler and G. Turner came home in 10mins 57secs, winning a pennant in their section. T. Powell & D. Kergal won the Novice 2x pennant in 9mins 36secs.

Medway’s H. Brown partnered H. Mexted, a member from Bewl Bridge Rowing Club in the IM3 2x section winning in a fine time of 9 mins 22 secs.  Both are members of the Regional squad.
