MTRC Race Update – Bedford Spring Head Success!

By Ruta Aisthorpe, Club Captain

Medway Towns Rowing Club continues to grow in strength and spirit, and our latest outing at the Bedford Spring Head was a brilliant example of just how far we’ve come. With a mix of experienced racers and first-time competitors, our crews demonstrated great determination, teamwork, and club pride throughout the day.

We were proud to have 11 crews representing MTRC across a variety of categories — from juniors and seniors to masters and mixed boats. The event provided a fantastic opportunity for some of our rowers to take on their very first race, while others pushed themselves in new lineups or aimed to build on previous race experience. No matter the goal, every MTRC rower gave it their all and helped contribute to a successful and enjoyable day of racing.

Race Highlights:

We’re delighted to share that MTRC crews brought home four wins from Bedford — a huge achievement and a reflection of the hard work being put in across the club.

Winning crews included:

• Masters C/E Double Sculls

• Masters F Double Sculls (composite with Tyrian)

• Masters D/E Quads (composite with Tyrian)

• Open Coxed Quads

Alongside our wins, we saw strong performances from our junior squad, with three junior crews taking to the water and gaining valuable race experience. Several of our women’s and mixed crews also delivered solid results, including podium finishes and promising signs for future races.

A Growing Club Community

As a club, we’re excited to keep building on this momentum. With every outing, we’re gaining confidence, refining our technique, and most importantly — enjoying the journey together. Thank you to everyone who made the Bedford Spring Head such a success. Here’s to more great races ahead!

Best wishes,

Ruta Aisthorpe
